A Quicky

Over here is an article about them crazy bible people thinking that dinosaurs walked with man. haha You need to register for that article by the way. But here's the little quote that I must show:

"Dinosaurs lived in the Garden of Eden, and Noah's Ark? Give me a break," said Kevin Padian, curator at the University of California Museum of Paleontology in Berkeley and president of National Center for Science Education, an Oakland group that supports teaching evolution. "For them, 'The Flintstones' is a documentary."

hahhahahahhahahhahhaahahaha The Flintstones....a documentary!!! That's great!

Of course there's enough evidence on His Noodly Appendage which I totally subscribe to. Arrr!!

CV, you must not have been looking seriously then. :) The basics are easy to understand but the details are vast and if you want a fuller understanding of the theory and supporting evidence, some study is required. I would recommend anything by Richard Dawkins. He's the man! :)

Well I won't continue this chain beyond this message... poor Keith and his blog comments running wild! :)

No condescending intended. But I once thought along the same lines as you, then decided I needed to start studying the topic of evolution for myself, instead of just listening to all the talking heads. 7 years and a biology degree later, I now have a much better grasp of the subject.

The basic problem with your current stance is one that is common among the public -- how you use the word "species" is not the same as how biologists use it. Species are not cut and dry...they are groupings of classifications made by people in an attempt to simplify things. Speciation is not a distinct event, but a gradual shift and blending over space and time. We have many examples of animals changing their breeding patterns with their neighbors so much that they become a different species. Ring species are another great example of this plastic situation.

Also, your word "adaptation" is a synonym for "evolution." Evolution is defined as "change over time," and has been proven many times over because we can track changes and adaptations, even in our short lifespans. The distinction I believe you are trying to make is between micro- and macro-evolution. Yes macroevolution is a harder sell, but there is plenty of correlating evidence, in the fossil record and otherwise.

Let's continue this on my blog if you're still interested in discussing!
